Chapter II · Understanding and access

Dragon Wealth

From fund documents to portfolios.

Fund documents and structured data became personalised recommendations and model portfolios on web and mobile.

Ground truth comes first.

Make the recommendation traceable to its inputs

At Dragon Wealth, I led product and technology for a cloud wealth platform on AWS. It combined fund documents with complex structured data to support personalised recommendations and model portfolios, delivered through web and mobile applications.

The recommendation depended on the facts underneath it. Fund information had to be available, extracted and organised before it could become an input to portfolio construction. Retail-relevant information was difficult to obtain from public sources, so access and understanding were part of the product problem.

This experience connects the data-platform work at Crayon Data with the retrieval work that later became Splore. A useful interface can make a recommendation look simple; the work is in making its inputs dependable enough to use.

Evidence and outcomes

Euromoney named Dragon Wealth Best Asian non-bank for innovation in its 2014 Innovations in Wealth Management Technology awards.
